The State Motto of Rhode Island – “Hope”

Many attribute Rhode Island’s state motto to a biblical phrase -  “hope we have as an anchor of the soul” … an insightful interpretation of information literacy’s relationship as the anchor to the soul of the art of teaching and learning in America, especially for the citizens of Rhode Island.

On September 12, 2012,  Governor Lincoln D. Chafee proclaimed October 1-31, 2012 as Information Literacy Month, encouraging all Rhode Islanders to observe it accordingly.  Mary MacDonald, Head of Instructional Services for the University of Rhode Island Libraries, Jenifer Bond, Vice-President of the Rhode Island Library Association (RILA), and Darshell Silva, President of School Librarians of Rhode Island (SLRI) led this  very successful effort!  We salute you!
