In Praise of Libraries and Museums…
First Lady Michelle Obama recently presented the 2015 National Medal for Museum and Library Service awards to 10 cultural institutions across America. Mrs. Obama praised the work of both libraries and museums for helping to keep people “from falling through the cracks.”
This year’s winners include Amazement Square in Lynchburg, Va.; Cecil County Public Library in Elkton, Md.; Craig Public Library in Craig, Alaska; Embudo Valley Library and Community Center in Dixon, N.M.; Los Angeles Public Library; Louisiana Children’s Museum in New Orleans; Museum of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff, N.M.; New York Hall of Science in Queens, N.Y.; The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in New York; and The Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, Calif.
