Ms. Cynthia G. Hurd was a professional librarian who believed that the best thing about being a librarian was a chance to serve her community.

A graduate of Clark Atlantic University, Ms. Hurd received her MLS from the University of South Carolina.  She was the manager of the St. Andrews Regional Library branch at Charleston County Public Library (CCPL).

According to the Post and Courier, on June 25th, the Charleston City Council voted unanimously to rename the St. Andrews Regional Library to the Cynthia Graham Hurd St. Andrews Regional Library.

One of the 9 victims of Charleston’s Emmanuel A.M.E. Church’s Bible study massacre on June 17th, Ms. Hurd’s going home service is today at the Emmanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family, the 8 victims’ families, and the Charleston community.
