The Majestic State of Alaska Becomes #8!
Joining the NFIL’s Little Engine that Could metaphor, Governor Sean Parnell of Alaska issued a proclamation declaring October to be Information Literacy Awareness Month! Issued on September 11, 2012, Alaska becomes the 8th state this year to underscore the importance of information literacy to the overall welfare of the Alaskan community and its citizens.
“…The State of Alaska supports information literacy. We are reminded of its importance to our states economic prosperity, our students’ education, and our social well being.”
The Alaskan initiative was lead by Deborah Mole, Professor and Librarian at the University of Alaska Anchorage/Alaska Pacific Consortium Library and endorsed by the Alaska Library Association and the Alaska Association of School Librarians.
We salute you, Alaska!!
